I-Cord

Play Video

This is a 3-stitch I-cord, so I've cast on 3 stitches. You use 2 double-pointed needles to make I-cord.

After casting on, instead of turning the work, slide it down such that the first stitch you will knit is at the opposite end of the stitches from the working yarn. Pull the working yarn across the back and knit three stitches. Now slide the work again, give the cord end a tug, pull the yarn across the back and knit three stitches.

You need to add some tension for the first stitch, so the working yarn is pulled really tightly through the back. I also find that it helps to give the cord fabric a tug after each row.

Repeat this process until the cord is the desired length.

It's very relaxing to knit I-cord, and, if you're not careful, you can end up with a very long piece!
