The yarn I chose for the model is dry clean only and may not be a good choice for a child's garment. Many other lovely yarns work at the same gauge and provide good choices in color and care:
1824 Cotton and 1824 Wool, both by Mission Falls, are great choices for this poncho. Both are machine wash and dry, come in a huge range of colors, and work up to a soft, lusious drape. I recently knit Niña in 1824 Cotton and used a contrast color for the neckband and a stripe near the bottom. Smashing!
Outback Wool, by Plymouth Yarn Co., comes in a lively range of space-dyed choices and will work to gauge required. Requires hand washing.
Wool Pak Yarns NZ, 10-ply, by Baabajoes Wool Co., comes in a large range of colors and some handpaints as well. Will work to required gauge; requires hand washing.
